Colors all around

I have never been much into nail polish and finding enjoyment in doing my nails, with the exception of those amazing confetti and glitter assorted ones when I was a little girl! I know I'm not the only one who fell head or heels for those! For the longest time during my high school years I would just wear whatever black nail polish I could find and wouldn't redo them until every bit of it had chipped away.

Recently though, I have moved onto much better ways of living, if ever the wellness of life were measured in how one treats their nails. Ever since I came across this color called California Trooper from American Apparel's nail polish line, I have been in love! Its proved to be really good quality and doesn't get that annoying lumpy textures some cheap nail polishes do.

So tell me dolls, what's your favorite color to wear these days? ♥

Stay in the shade and watch the world turn.

A bit of a hat theme in these wonderful looks. I wonder when this little obsession of mine will fade...
Hope you dolls have all been having a wonderful weekend! ♥

Only days away...

(lace blouse- american apparel, cami- american apparel, boater hat- modcloth, pixie boots- nygstyle on etsy)
I got this hat a while ago in the mail from Mod Cloth, and have yet to show case it- so here it is!  And these vintage pixie boots I just got from nygstyle on Etsy are amazing! I am madly in love with them! I recommend taking a look at her shop.
Aside from my love for these pieces, I am loving life right now. Only one week left of classes and I'm out for the Summer! And I'm sure many of you dolls are anticipating the soon to come events of the Summer as well! First finals and a paper of course, but then I'm free! There is so much to get done within the next months! I'm predicting a great deal of wonderful things for the season.
Any big plans for yourselves this summer? ♥

Sans Makeup

So this is Theresa, sans makeup. I don't believe you've met her yet.
And now I am officially a dork for referring to myself in the third person.
(cardigan- american apparel, dress- urban outfitters, sheer tights- gift, peep toes- little ocean annie shop on etsy)
I just got these woven peep toes that ordered from Little Ocean Annie on Etsy. They are adorable and exactly what I was looking for! My only issue with them is that they have given me horrible blisters on the back of my heel after an hour of wear. Thank goodness for band-aids!

Contest: Paper Doll for a Day ♥

First off, I wanted to thank Sara from She is Sara for featuring me on her blog for her Blogger Round-up! What a huge compliment, especially from such an amazing chick! She's always such a joy to chat with and has such a wonderful blog. So if you haven't already, I definitely recommend checking out her blog!

With my newly being hired at American Apparel, I have run into the issue of having to wear all AA clothing to work. Before actually buying anything I've been trying to figure out outfits in my head so I'm not stuck with a bunch of fantastic separates that don't even go together.
Then I had a spur of  the moment inspiration! Growing up, we all have our share of early preparation into the creation of the fashionistas we have come to be. The countless outfits for Barbie, or even those clever little paper dolls. So I thought, why don't I allow you dears have the joy of this once again?
So here's the idea: treat me like your paper doll! I'm giving you all the chance to pick out my outfit. You can go onto the American Apparel website and put together an outfit you think would look fantastic. Leave the links in the comment box and I'll post my favorite and eventually get to wearing it!
I trust you dolls and your judgment!
Fine print: I'll have a little prize for the top choice as well!

The usage of Sailor Moon paper dolls was necessary. A true childhood obsession of mine!
I've also been in a bit of a blunder over whether I should purchase these darling vintage pixie boots or not. Out of all the ones I've seen, I love the shape of these! Plus, I don't have anything in my closet like this at all So here I go. Caving again.
Enjoy the rest of your weekends! ♥

Your Personal Signature Piece

As darling little girls, we had our dolls or plush teddies that never left our sight. Or there's always the princess in us that tried for at least a week to wear that sterling, rhinestone encrusted tiara to claim our royalty. Though we once considered our plush friends as our much admired signature companions, they have been replaced with a vintage ring that may have been handed down to us, or simply was the most glorious find ever. I have always admired the idea of having one's own personal signature piece, so I will share a couple of my own.

I don't know if you dolls have noticed, but in all of my outfit posts I am wearing the same round, silver pendant about my neck. I truly wear it every day. I originally bought it a few years back in a farmers market in Irvine and was drawn to its raw beauty, but even more so what it stood for. The woman selling the jewelry had brought these pieces directly from Nepal, and was selling them in effort to support fair trade. Every piece had so much character, beauty, and wonderful craftsmanship. I had gone on wearing it all this time not knowing what exactly it meant until I came across the most lovely woman from her blog, goddess of the confluence. Her blog and travels are so intriguing, and though she is originally from Ohio, she is currently a  wholesale supplier of jewelry, beads, artifacts and artwork from Nepal, focusing on preserving the traditional artist. I recommend taking some time to look through the archives of her blog, it's amazing! She ended up providing me with the information of my beloved pendant, and what I found out was incredible.  Apparently, the pendant that opens is called a gao and is used to contain holy relics or significant items that indicate you are on the correct path. On the back of the gao is a protective blessing called the Kalachakra Mandala basically providing peace and balance. It was truly astounding to me what I had been missing all this time, making it mean that much more to me.
Another piece I wear on a daily basis is my feather earring. I wear it not so much for means of fashion, though I love how it looks, but as a symbol of freedom and also for the meaning it holds in Native American culture as a representation of the Creative Force. To add to its special meaning to me, the one I've been wearing recently, I bought with a friend of mine at an art walk. She wears one while I wear the other. :)

So please dolls, go on and tell me about your signature pieces! I am so interested to hear!
Even better, email me a picture of your pieces, or of you wearing them, and I'll feature you all on a blog post to showcase the unique beauties of your possession. ♥

Sweet Frills and Tea Time Treats of the Week ♥

The days are growing longer my dears, and the summer days are stirring anxious excitement in us all. The sweet summer scents and denim cutoffs, the lightly dripping popsicles sticky to our touch under the warm blue skies. The perfect atmosphere for a get together with the gals, alongside your favorite china and heart warming sweets. Check, check, and check to all the above, but whatever is to be worn to such a sophisticated little event? Of course, the necessities of dainty gloves, your most lady-like hat to sit atop your pretty locks, and vintage pumps all around. Enjoy the mid-day chatter and a macaron (I have sadly, not had to the chance to taste these little delights yet!) or two wearing a stunning, airy dress. Perfection to say the least. ♥

Semi-surprise

Last night I actually had the time to just sit, then realized that I hadn't done an actual post since last Wednesday! There has just been far too much going on. Last week was my boyfriend's birthday week, and yes, I say week, because it truly was not limited to just that day. It was celebrated on Wednesday with his family, but also on Saturday, since I took the liberty of planning a little semi-successful surprise birthday deal for him. Semi because he wasn't fully surprised due to it not working out exactly as planned. Nothing extravagant, more of a bit of a get together. I had made cupcakes earlier that morning for it, but I was in such a rush I didn't get any shots of them in the making or after! That means I'll just have to make them again for you dolls. I also need to get you a better shot of this dress, because I love it!
But overall, it went well, consisting of the park, food, and tennis, and friends. Unfortunately, there weren't many pictures taken and the ones that were came out awfully blurry. These guys just wouldn't stay still!
Oh, and Thursday was my first day at work at American Apparel. All the people working there were super nice and very helpful. Honestly, a lot better than I expected.
Hope you're all enjoying your Monday as much as a Monday can be enjoyed! ♥
Falling asleep on and off in class today, I know how difficult that can be.

Fahionista Spotlight: Corinne Bailey Rae

This stunning, mellow songstress may not be known to fit the title "fashionista" but I can't help but admire her easygoing, cute style. From her amazing piled ringlets to her sweet melodious voice, how can a person not love her? When asked about her personal style, Rae answered, "I've never been too interested in what's happening now in terms of fashion, so I've always dressed vintage. I think that goes with the music too, it's referencing the jazz era." What enraptures me about her even more is her genuine personality and commitment to stay true to herself. She isn't a follower in her style of dress, nor her music, which is evident in her statement,
"Some people are making music which is about sex and dancing, so I don't really condemn artists who choose to bare all, but I'm not into that porn-starry way of behaving, like: 'This is what being a sexualised woman is all about, touching your breasts and looking vacant with an open mouth...' It's so formulaic that I find it boring." It's not often that you find someone in the spotlight with such a strong grasp of her femininity, individuality, and strength all at once.

Though she is an inspiration in herself, she has some of her own, including Audrey Hepburn and Björk for their style, along with Courtney Love, more so in her early days, for her powerful femininity. The way that Corinne holds her own is just a single example of her great strength despite all she's dealt with in recent years. Now she is back with her wonderful album, The Sea. I have listened to it all the way through, and I absolutely love each of the tracks, especially Paris Nights/ New York Mornings. The video itself is so charming! I definitely recommend. ♥

An example of Corinne's sweet and simple look is the cute baby blue romper she rocked with her darling oxfords at Coachella. Here's my rendition of her comfy cute look:

Mix, match, & mess

(oversized striped tank- american apparel, skirt- american apparel, scarf- thrifted, oxfords- payless )
I had a bit of an American Apparel overload the day that I wore this, which I didn’t actually realize until later.
Also, I really need to find myself some more scarves like this! I’ve been using this one far too much because I love it dearly! Can you believe it was only 50 cents??
My overload on AA clothing actually reminds me of some wonderful news I have: I got the job at American Apparel! First of all, I'm just generally excited about finally getting a job after months and months of searching, And of course, its American Apparel! That definitely beats having to resort to working at some fast food joint.
Today I plan on going to the opening of this art exhibit at the Grand Central Art Center Gallery. That title left me a bit winded just typing it! I was actually looking forward to the art walk that they have in that area every first Saturday of the month, but alas, instead they are having the Cinco De Mayo festival, Mexican music never really being my cup of tea.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend full of reasons to smile ♥
