Bows and lace on a sun lit day

I just could not hold off on showing you dolls the new shirt I got at the Bettie Page boutique while in San Francisco! I have to say, it was quite a splurge, but  I am positively in love with it. The bows, the lace trim, and the navy color are too perfect! I'm sure you'll be seeing it again soon.
(blouse- bettie page, skirt- american apparel, knee highs- american apprel, hat- modcloth)
These pictures seem a bit off to me because my hat was titled a bit too far back. They were quite rushed because I really didn't want some passerbys walking through, thus creating an awfully awkward moment. Being stuck in a suburban neighborhood really leaves me with an extremely small choice of locations though. Does any one else have this issue? On a completely other point, I'm so excited that I won the Rock Paper Vintage giveaway through calivintage! Thanks so much to both of them for that! I can't wait to pic out some things from her lovely shop!

Well anyways, have a wonderful weekend, sweets! ♥

Chanel Paris Shanghai

Episode 1
 Episode 2

There are 10 more videos to follow. I do recommend watching them on youtube. Now honestly, I'm not normally into name brands and the details of those high end, big name designers, but it is so interesting to see what goes on within the making of Chanel, whether it be the drawing, the pattern making, the embroidery, the accessorizing, or the inspiration. Karl Lagerfeld is a genius.

In the Kitchen: Peanut Butter Parfait

Do you dolls remember the other day when I mentioned this vegan restaurant called Native Foods and the incredible food they had? Well I actually bought the restaurant's cookbook called "The Native Foods Restaurant Cookbook" from the wonderful chef Tanya Petrovna. It's available on Amazon if you want to check it out here. It really is worth it and I know I will be constantly referring to it! I was a bit disappointed to find that they hadn't included the recipe for the peanut butter parfait that I loved oh-so-much! But a recipe for a delicious key lime parfait was included, so I decided to switch around the ingredients and whatnot, and wala! you sweets now get the recipe first hand from me!
You and your tastebuds will forget that this little dessert is actually healthy! Desserts, healthy?? And they taste good!? What is this nonsense??

Peanut Butter Parfait:

Print Recipe

Ingredients

  • 8 oz soy cream cheese
  • 12 oz firm silken tofu (I used soft silken tofu, which worked out just as well.)
  • 1/2 cup soy milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

In a blender, put in soy cream cheese, tofu, soy milk, sugar, and peanut butter. Puree until smooth and well blended. Pour mixture into six 8-ounce parfait glasses or wineglasses. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
Serving Suggestions:
  • Add chocolate syrup to make it into a peanut butter- chocolate mixture.
  • Add a small amount of granola and bittersweet chocolate chips on top of your parfait.
  • Add sliced bananas or fruit of your choice to the bottom of glasses then pour parfait on top.

Left my heart in San Francisco

San Francisco truly turned out to be what I expected: an absolutely lovely place. That is, of course, once we got used to the streets and simply getting around. Despite this though, all the beautiful architecture and charm throughout the city made getting lost not at all dull or much of a frustration. Of course, I had to share with you dolls some shots I had taken along the way! Walking across the Golden Gate bridge and back was quite the experience to start off with!
The well-known Pier 39 at the Fisherman's Wharf was really a fun environment. Though it would have been odd for me to go on it, the 2-level carousel was absolutely grand to look at!
When I caught sight of the Bettie Page store on Haight and Ashbury, I think my jaw quite literally dropped. The entire boutique and everything in it was to die for! I'll admit, I splurged a bit on likely what is now the cutest thing thing in my closet! I'll have to share that with you guys some time very very soon. I was just so excited about it!
I have to say, Haight Street was my complete favorite part of all of San Francisco. The shops, the various cafes, and the atmosphere, and the laid-back vibe alone was just so great and unique! If I had the chance, I would have spent hours (and so much money) there alone.
After my undying love for the city and its charm, I'm glad to be home and sleeping in my own bed again, though I'll make sure this won't be my last trip to San Francisco!

Featured Style of the Moment: Oscar

I was really liking the "guy style file" that Sara from She is Sara had going on, so I decided that I would do my own little bit that was a bit similar, because, quite frankly, men's fashion doesn't get the credit it should.
To start off, this is my friend, Oscar, who I can honestly say, if I were a guy, I definitely wouldn't mind raiding his closet.
How would you describe your style, and what would you say influences it?
My style, well, I don't really have a style. It is very simple, but eclectic. I enjoy strange cuts, fabrics, and patterns, though most of the time I'd just wear denim and a t-shirt. My influences come from the media, the music I listen to, and the city I live in.
What are your favorite places to shop, brands, designers, etc.?
My go to stores are H&M, Zara, and Urban. I stay away from thrift stores just because I'm a horrible thrifter! I'm much better at finding stuff for woman/friends, and things I can collect, than men's clothing. I'd prefer to expand my selection of shops and designers, but I'm not too financially endowed to afford a quarter of what I'd like to own. Some of my preferred designers are Philip Lim, Christopher Kane, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Gareth Pugh, and of course the infamous McQueen.

What do you feel is key to an outfit?
Black! If not black, then a belt.

What are your passions?
All my passions lie within the arts. I enjoy music, drawing, fashion, and painting. Though I also enjoy my fair share of video games and the internet. Most of my week is spent online, it taught me so much about what I know, and expanded my eyes within the world of fashion. Youtube even taught me how to sew!

What are you hoping to buy to add to your wardrobe sometime soon?
Boots. I need a nice pair of combat boots that aren't overwhelmingly bulky. My selection of shoes isn't up to par with my wardrobe at the moment, so shoes are a priority.

Much thanks to Oscar for taking the time to answer my questions, and I hope you dolls enjoyed this little feature!
I'm still in San Francisco and having a wonderful little getaway so far, so this will likely be the last post until I get back and am able to upload, just so you all know. Enjoy your fun sunshine-filled weekends! ♥

Ciao!

Today at around 2 pm, I will be on my way to San Francisco. I have never been, which makes it all the more exciting! The thing is though, I will be gone until Sunday, and I'm not quite sure of the availability of wifi in the hotel where I will be staying. That just gives me an excuse to find the closest coffee shop and relax there for a while, which sounds ever so enticing right now, especially with the caffeine that needs to go into my system due to my lack of sleep this past night.
Also, I have a bit of an issue with uploading pictures with my camera, so posts along the way may not be a possibility, but I'm hoping that isn't the case! I will make sure to have up a couple posts at least while I am gone.
Have a wonderful week, dolls! ♥

Blooming flowers waltz before me

To sum up this weekend: it went very well. Saturday alone was well spent with my friend, Oscar. We decided to have our own little photoshoot, or as he preferred to call it, a photo op. I'll just say it was awkwardly fun, because I always feel so odd in front of the camera for some reason. You'd think by now I would get used to it!
A major plus was that we got to put his brand new Canon Rebel TSI to use, which was fantastic! You have no idea of how jealous I am of him for it. The whole shoot took a bit getting used to, but it was so much fun! The only thing I did end up noticing, was that he is definitely more photogenic than I am!
And yes, I tripped, hence the face. Walking on rocks in heels does not work out so well, but that's no new news.
Photobucket
I'll be adding pictures of him in a separate post because I have something planned for it. They'll be worth the wait, especially since they came out significantly better than mine.
After our photo op, we were in absolutely famished. Honestly, I'm just in the mood for exaggerated expressions, so in other words, we were simply hungry. Headed off to one of my usual favorite places, the Gypsy Den and spent the rest of the day wasting time at his house and sipping lemonade to pass the hours with the hot heat settling over these summer California days.

Great Balls of Frizz

If only it was that easy to look that fabulous strolling the street in the sweltering heat. Especially as far as hair-- mine tends to resemble a great ball of frizz.
Things have made a turn around to the not so great lately, for reasons I won't go on droning on about, but, nevertheless, I'm searching for a little bit of a pick-me-up. It's these days where I am left to stop and wonder, what on Earth am I going to do with my life, what am I going to become? Ah, but those matters are far too serious to tamper with at the moment; some fun sounds far more welcoming.
In the meantime, I am continuing my purse search. Stuck in between a vintage Dooney and Bourke or an ultra-lovely tooled leather boho bag.
Speaking of purses though, I still need to put up my giveaway for you lovelies! It will be up by tomorrow, I promise!

Stop and taste the roses.

This message above was the start of my lunch date with my grandma and I at The Camp in Costa Mesa. I would say it's genius how they put a different message on each parking spot. Our first stop for the day was Native Foods, which is a lovely organic/ vegan/ vegetarian restaurant with an incredible menu. You will definitely get my recommendation to this place.
This is my grandma in heaven with the peanut butter parfait I made her try, because it is oh-so-delicious! We completely shared the same reaction to it.
One of the most gorgeous little creations I have ever laid eyes on with rose petals trickled across a fluffy creme colored frosting. It hardly looks edible, though I can officially say I ate actual roses for the first time this day. I'll admit, I'd rather look at them than eat them though. Definitely an interesting first time experience with this cardamon rose cupcake, and surprisingly delicious.
After we filled ourselves with organic-deliciousness, and I decided that buying the restaurant's cookbook is a must, we drove a ways down to San Juan Capistrano mission, specifically for the summer course I'm taking.
The architecture and the gardens there were absolutely stunning. It is bizarre that this was all built two centuries ago.
I actually had my red boater had on earlier in the day, but after my grandma insisted that I looked like I was heading to a derby, I decided to leave it behind in the car to avoid any odd judgments to accompany my her's.

So the moral of my long, image heavy post is: "eat your vegetables."
