Featured on gurl.com

This is actually my first time being featured for anything so I was a bit honored and delighted to find out that gurl.com had featured me as one of the "25 gURLs who inspire back to school style." Check it out here, along with the other 24 others, including one of my favorites, Sara, from She is Sara.
By the way, dolls, this is me saying, I'm back. ♥

Shop update!

Photobucket

I know, I know, I've been an awful slacker this week. I've just been wicked busy recently having to take up nearly all the household tasks since my grandmother broke her arm this past weekend, leaving me with not much time for anything otherwise. But of course, that's just another excuse to add to the book. I'm honestly completely void of inspiration, and camera-less once again. I will back on it soon enough though. In the meantime, a few shop updates for you all.

Enjoy your weekends, dolls! ♥

In the Kitchen: Jungle Boogie bars

So here's another little something I picked up from my cookbook, The Native Foods Restaurant Cookbook. I told you it would be back! Mm but let me tell you, it was delicious. With everyone in my house, it was gone within a couple of days. I'm not sure if that's saying much though? What  can I say, I have a horrible sweet tooth.

Jungle Boogie Bars:

Print Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 cups maple syrup
  • 6 oz firm silken tofu (aseptic package)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup saffower or sunflower oil
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 tbsp vanilla

Cooking Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Mix flour, oats, baking powder, salt almonds, coconut, and chocolate chips together in a large bowl. Puree maple syrup, tofu, banana, oil, shortening, and vanilla in a blender. Combine all ingredients. Pour mixture into an oiled 13x9 inch baking pan, and bake 35-40 minutes. Let cool before cutting.

I hope you all enjoy. ♥

Opposites attract

One look I can never seem to stop digging on is a band-t, or any graphic t-shirt for that matter, paired with almost anything. I love them most worn unexpectedly though, whether it be with a boho, vintage or girly vibe. A punk t and floral skirt is a combination made in some odd sort of heaven in my head.

I'll admit, t-shirts are one of my many guilty pleasures, so when I cam across cafepress.com, there were just so many it was hard to get through them all! From band-t's to general funny t-shirts, tv and media including Weeds apparel and even Gossip Girl liners, which got me plenty excited. (Might I mention I cannot wait until the new season starts up!) What catches my eye a lot of the time is when I see that proceeds go towards charity, which is why I have a great deal of the t-shirts that I do, mainly from Obey and Threads for Thought. A portion of proceeds from their BP t-shirts and products goes towards the actual Golf Restoration. Aside from the t-shirts though, I realized they have a sister site of sorts called imagekind, that carry some of the most gorgeous art prints and posters! I'm feeling an urge to add to my already cluttered walls.

Salute your shorts

Fall is coming and once this heat takes a turn elsewhere, a jacket will be in need. It's never too early to keep your eyes open for your new, desirable favorite, and I know I've had my eyes on one of these babies. The military inspiration is nothing new to the fashion scene, but this time it takes on a lot less Michael Jackson and a lot more utilitarian with its olive green tones. Tone down the frills of a girly frock, rock it with a cute LBD and patterned tights, or even keep it casual with jeans and a flowy white button down, it's just so versatile!
Stop by a nearby military surplus store or the Gap has a great Corduroy-trimmed utility jacket, or a slick, belted take from BB Dakota. I know for a fact Zara will have some on hand as well. And don't forget the killer booties to pair it with!
Don't get me wrong though, as much as I love the look, this won't be getting me any closer to camo print anything. I refuse to go there.

Misfits in denim

I don't believe I've mentioned this before, but I have an extreme love for John Hughes's classic 80's films, such as Pretty and Pink, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Breakfast Club being my favorite! So when I strayed across this editorial in Nylon, inspired by just that, I was immediately in love and just had to share. The variety of denim is just gorgeous!

Production mode on a lazy day

I've set to have myself do work today, but it much rather feels like this:
This is a photo of my boy's dog by the way. When he isn't sleeping like usual, the fluff butt tends to have a bit of, what I like to call, little dog syndrome. He can be a bit psychotic, that one.

But alas, my day looks much more like this, full of sewing and accidental finger pricking. I told you dolls I would get this etsy shop started up one of these days, so here is my latest attempt of actually building up some products.
One point of needed opinion though, as far as bow tie necklaces, would you rather it be on a longer chain, or shorter so that it can be worn around the collar much more like a regular bow tie?

Have a lovely day! ♥
Cheerio!

I fell for you jivin'

I have an obsession with trying on different looks and styles, especially my hair. Except about a bit over a year ago when I decided  to chop off my hair, I can't help but regret it a bit now that its in its "growing out" phase, which is why I dare not try a pixie cut, no matter how much I would love to. I'm far too indecisive for such a drastic change! So I have days where my imagination gets a bit ahead of me and I try to pull off some odd deceiving hair-do.
That said, I couldn't help but get a bit happy over being questioned, "Did you cut your hair??" a few times today! It was somewhat inspired by Janelle Monae, but in all honesty, I just use that excuse after. I wasn't sure what I was doing. I just went with it.

Also, I have to say, I seem to love this vest more every time I get around to wearing it!
And is it just me, or do the leaves in the background of this shot look like hearts? I think so.

Hope you find plenty of reasons to smile this week, dolls! ♥

Oufit Favorites & Inspiration

I                                                                                 Melanie Likes

These lovely ladies and their looks really caught my eye this week. It may be my on going love for high waisted shorts, the right mixture of girly and more masculine pieces, or maybe even the simple detail of a braided brown belt that seems to be repeated throughout the majority of these. Quite honestly, what is there not to love about each of these outfits? Though it does remind me that I still desperately need a pair of high waisted denim cut-offs! ♥
