Messy days

Goodness gracious, look at that sad excuse for a hairdo. I don't even know how that came about. Lack of sleep? Last minute paper? Possibly.
This silly, bi-polar weather got me back into a comfy oversized sweater. As oddly as it fits, I love it. It was formerly my grandpas actually. I have a tendency of going shopping in my family's closets it seems.
These tights! I don't believe I've introduced them on the blog before, despite how much I've worn them. These I got while venturing about San Francisco last Summer. That seems so far from now! I mean, goodness, Summer is already right around the corner again! It honestly took me the longest time to figure out the bow pattern on them for some reason.
Oh, and I'm still fighting off the urge to buy myself another one of these skirts in black possibly. I love it, though white isn't always so practical. Especially given how see-through this one seems to be. That's what layering is for I suppose. Maybe once I finish paying for all these other things, all these music events! I actually just finished purchasing my tickets to see Robert Francis and the Old 97s this Wednesday in LA. Anyone else going? I'm pretty excited. (:
I have a feeling you guys are going to be seeing this little cross tie almost too much now. It just works to perfectly with everything!
It's Friday! Have yourselves a lovely weekend! ♥

I was a dancer all along

Of the numerous floral dresses I own, this one is at the top of my list. The little pearl buttons, the vintage print, and the cut and fit is perfect. Plus, it works perfectly with over-the-knee socks, who can complain?
Actually, wait, I do have one little complaint. One of those cute little cute little pearl buttons has a tendency of slipping undone. This usually ends up with a not so cute situation of me scrambling to avoid any further wardrobe malfunction. Aside from that, it did have a bit of an identity crisis as a romper when I first bought it. It was obviously made to be a dress, except, you know... on those really windy days.
Oh and I might as well be honest. The floral wreath/ headband was not adorned all day long in the midst of classes. I'm guilty. I would do it though! But it's mainly for the reason that these pictures are more of a bit of a preview as far what is to come very, very soon! The lovely Olivia and I will be having a photo shoot this weekend in preparation for the opening of my Etsy shop including an assortment of these little floral lovelies. I'm thoroughly excited!
The one pictured will also be available, just so you know.

Don't stop

Ages ago I remember putting up a picture of this vintage dress on a hanger. I also remember it didn't look all that great on the hanger either. But see, I told you it looks a lot better on! It's really quite a bright, tropical print. When I woke up in the morning, I swear the weather tried to keep me from wearing it on purpose. I refused to give in and wore it anyways and threw on some sweater tights. Problem solved! I personally think mother nature actually gave in and admired me for my determination since it ended up warming up a bit later on.
(dress- vintage, sweater- vintage, glasses- 80s purple, tights- jessica simpson, shoes- vintage)
And if this were a family picture slide show, this is where I would say, "And this is me looking painfully awkward whilst trying to wink." I just can't do it! All dreams of ever becoming a pin-up model have gone down the drain. All because I can't wink. Sad truth. So yes, I just included this last picture to make a fool of myself. It's just something I do. Life is hardly any fun if you take yourself too seriously!
Oh well, there are surely many other aspirations I can tackle that don't require a good wink. haha
In the meantime though, since I'm sure it will take me quite a while to make up my indecisive mind, have yourselves a lovely rest of the week.
It's almost the weekend! ♥

Oh, and thanks bunches to Beatrice from Dear Beatrice for featuring me in her style inspiration post this week. Do check her out if you don't know about her already!

Different tastes, changing shapes

Just a lazy day of button ups and cut offs and the necessary tights since the air decided to go back to being a bit more chill. I'm not quite ready for shorts without tights yet anyways! There's a lot of mental transitioning I have to do to get to that point. haha

I've honestly been waiting to get myself one of these little cross ties. I was going to make one myself, but it turned out to be a bit of a disaster. I really shouldn't bother with that sort of thing. For me, it's better to leave it to the professionals.
It's funny how tastes change though. When I was in private school years ago I would have nearly died if I would have had to wear a button up completely buttoned up to my chin and a silly little tie thing like this. Now, I could easily make regular use of it. I somewhat blame Gossip Girl for making uniforms look so good. I just wish I would have had that sort of sense back then. But no, I was too caught up in the angsty idea of hating everything, especially uniforms, to even bother with the idea of making it look nice.

Another thing I would have never thought of wearing before- midi skirts! I think they're gorgeous. All these longer lengths are just wonderful and refreshing. That's why I was so excited when I came across these two vintage pleated versions from Persnickety Vintage etsy shop. Especially for only $5 each- such a ridiculously good buy. Her shop is fantastic, I would definitely recommend taking a look!

Hope you're all having a wonderful week so far! ♥

You know, I don't recall my tights being this awful when I put them on in the morning. They probably weren't. I just couldn't be bothered with going to change them again. Why can't my tights ever stay in tact?? Aside from that though, I'm pretty happy with how this outfit came out. These oxfords haven't seen the outside of my closet for a while and they worked out just so well.
The scarf I'm wearing in my hair I love love love. I actually was lucky enough to have won it through PreviouslyOwned's giveaway a while back from Hinterland Vintage. The colors and pattern on it are just gorgeous, and you know me and scarves!

Featured Blogger: Elyse of Give Me Bows

I've just been thrilled to introduce you all to this lovely lady, Miss Elsye of Give Me Bows. I came across her blog not too long ago, and she is just the sweetest thing, and mind you, with the sweetest dress collection and style to boot! Not only that, but her DIY's are just as lovely. After doing this little interview with her, I couldn't  help but like her tons more, (and also be slightly envious that she got to see The National!).

Give us a little something about yourself. What makes you you?
I grew up on an organic fruit and vegetable farm on the coast of Australia. As soon as school ended, I packed a small suitcase of belongings and moved to Sydney to study/explore/play/meet new friends/grow. I have never looked back! I am a little shy and introverted, but also friendly, creative and open-minded. I am striving to be more thoughtful, generous and forgiving.

What made you initially start blogging? and your favorite thing about it?
Oh, there are so many reasons! To keep a diary to read, cherish and giggle about later in life + to appreciate the beautiful moments in each day + to share creative/DIY projects like my first handmade skirt + to explore and refine my style + to engage with people on the other side of the world with shared interests. My favourite thing so far would be the community spirit of blogging – everyone is so kind, supportive, and generous with tips and ideas.

What are some of your passions?
I have a big fear of ‘floating through life’ without making the most of each day, so I aim to always have lots of hobbies + go on adventures + learn new things + self-reflect and grow. I am passionate about sewing, craft, mixed media painting, reading, philosophy, psychology and travelling. Lately I have also taken an interest in photography, cross-stitching, vegetarian cooking and ‘to do’ lists!

What influences and inspires the way you dress and what brought about your interest in fashion?
I am inspired by 50s fashion + quirky fashion labels like Nadinoo and TBA + fashion bloggers + all things feminine and ladylike. I love little details like tulle, velvet, lace, pearls and bows. I didn’t always have an interest in fashion... I guess my interest grew from the realisation that when you embrace and enjoy getting dressed each morning, you begin the day with a more positive outlook.

You have one of the sweetest collection of dresses I have ever seen! What to you, embodies the perfect dress?
Thanks so much! I love collecting dresses – to me they are beautiful, comfortable and an outfit-in-one (meaning an extra 5 minutes sleep-in each morning!) I look for flattering shapes + cute prints (such as flowers, animals or bows) + cotton or silk blends. I recently finished sewing my first ever dress from scratch, it wasn't perfect but it was okay for a first attempt!

What are some of your favorite blogs out in the blogosphere?
I love to ‘blog surf’ and always stumble upon new inspirational blogs. Some of my favourites at the moment include: on dressing up, with lavender and lace!, the Tragic Sense, Scathingly Brilliant, Pretty Little Pictures, Lulu Letty and Louder than Silence.

What item are you lusting after right now?
We are heading into winter in Australia and I was very thrilled to recently hunt down the TBA ‘Francescia’ Coat in navy – it has a velvet collar and sweet gold buttons! I am now lusting after cute printed stockings with hearts, bows and polka dots. (Admittedly, it is a little hard to get excited about winter fashion when there are so many gorgeous Spring outfits popping up on Northern hemisphere blogs!)

What are some of your favorite listens at the moment?
I recently saw The National when they were in Sydney, they are amazing. I am also loving The Wombats, Hot Chip and Yeasayer.
Now, you can't tell me that you didn't love this interview as much as I enjoyed it. Don't forget to check out the rest of her blog, Give Me Bows, follow, and all those sorts. Elyse is just all kinds of wonderful. ♥

Red accents

My last post was "without face," now this one is a bit overwhelming with it. I think I just really liked my hair this day. I did it for once rather than having my usual mess, that I honestly secretly love.
(blouse- handmade, skirt- american apparel, jacket- don't remember)
Funny thing, this blouse is actually recycled piece from a Halloween costume my grandmother helped me out with the year before last. I was supposed to be a sort of creepy doll, but I now use both the skirt and blouse parts to the outfit. I really loved the costume, so I figure why not? And of course, a leather jacket is always a classic must for me.
I've been in an awfully good mood today, especially for a Monday. Just finished up on some cupcakes that I will definitely be making a post of later on in the week. I'm also super excited to introduce you lovelies to my new featured blogger of the moment! She's an absolute doll.
Now I'm off to get some studying done! Two exams tomorrow and I'm aiming to get an A on both. We shall see how that turns out.
Hope you're all having a wonderful Monday! ♥

Without face

You know yesterday, how I mentioned I love clothes with stories. Well I'm starting to think it has a lot more to do with just "permanently borrowing" things from my grandma. This little cardigan with the pearl buttons- yup, it was hers when she was actually 15. She said it got passed around quite a bit amongst her sisters, and now I'm happy to say it skipped a generation and somehow ended up in my possession. Love it! And since I'm mentioning her so much, in case you hadn't seen it, a while back a posted a few old photographs of my grandma's on my blog. Check them out here if you like!
These feather earrings, they're love. I adore them. I picked them up during my adventures in Venice Beach with my friend, Cynthia, not too long ago.  If you're ever in SoCal, do make a point to check out Venice Beach. It's weird at first, but once it sinks in, you'll love it, even more for all its oddities.
These photos were taken Monday I believe? I decided to have no face that day apparently. It happens.
And oh hey, it's almost Friday! Cheers ♥

Sunshine all day

I love this shirt. When I was younger and would see my grandma wearing it. I would study the patterns all day long until they could no longer hold my attention. I would always take notice of how certain sections reminded me of watermelon. Now I seem to have permanently borrowed it from her and every time she sees me wearing it she reminds me of how she remembers buying it for my aunt when she was 15. I just love clothes with a story.
(shirt- permanently borrowed, pants- h&m, shoes- vintage from little ocean annie)
Spring break is now over, but my mind still isn't readilly cooperating with this. Mentally I'm still on break, but you know what, that's okay because it keeps me a bit more relaxed. Just as long as I don't slack off, of course. Everything just feels so much better when you're thoroughly trying to enjoy life and be a bit more carefree. Stress just isn't worth it. Instead, ending my day yesterday with cheesecake and great company. Now that's definitely worth it.

In the works

I just wanted to share with you all a little insight into a few things I've made so far to add to my Etsy shop when I open it. There's plenty more of course, but I'm just hoping to put together a good inventory before actually starting. I'm really excited about this! By the end of this month it will be sure to happen.
Peace, love & all the above. xx

hello San Diego

Goodness, how long has it been? At least a week I'm sure. I've just been a bit of everywhere this Spring break! One of the highlights was definitely Wednesday, taking a trip down to San Diego with my friends Olivia and Oscar.  The first half of it was simply lurking around Downtown San Diego. I had one of the best burgers ever from Nicky Rottens while we were there! Slight rant though, nacho cheese does not belong on chili cheese fries. Just, no.
The rest of the night included heading over to the UCSD campus for a live performance by some great talents.
First up, Pheo and AFTA-1, then Quadron, who I had been dying to see! Coco's voice is just something else. I love it.
We decided to stick around for CD signing and to chat. These two were just extremely chill- great music, amazing people, do check them out! I looked like a hot mess in this last picture, but it was getting to 12 already, so that's my excuse. I'm just not gifted with the ability to look amazing after the entire day has gone by!
Other than San Diego, I've been pretty busy with my new job and just a few side projects I've been working on. I will be back to my regular schedule this next week though.
Hope you dolls had a wonderful week and are enjoying your weekends! ♥
